Background

I, Hamlet  is an original dance-drama "mystery play" (based on Shakespeare's Hamlet) which was performed live, in October of 1999, on the shores of an Alpine lake high in the Rila mountains of Bulgaria. While the performance was captured on film, a second film crew documented every aspect of this unique and challenging undertaking.

This is the fundamental conception behind I, Hamlet  and all of SacredDramas.Org's various projects.

I, Hamlet   has the official support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Tourism, the Ministry of Environment and Waters, and the National Film Center (on behalf of the Ministry of Culture).

Principal photography has been completed (for both the documentary and the feature) and the project is now in its post-production phase. Additional filming is scheduled for May/June of 2000 with the completed project slated for delivery early in 2001.

The documentary will become a substantial element of a huge database containing many streams of relevant information (background on Bulgaria, previous interpretations of HAMLET, esoteric philosophy, etc.) It will then be delivered for broadcast, videotape, Internet, DVD and CD-ROM, and will be presented at several international interactive art exhibitions as an installation piece.

I, Hamlet  is a co-production between the Bulgarian Cinema Foundation and HyperBole Studios.
